Charlottetown: The Green Party of PEI is pleased to announce the latest addition to its roster of shadow cabinet critics: Dr. Susan Hartley has been named Health and Wellness Critic.
Dr. Hartley co-founded Collaborative Practice PEI, a multi-disciplinary team of professionals who offer a client-driven alternative to court and litigation for Island families in the process of separation and divorce, and is trained in Interest Based Negotiation.
Dr. Hartley has a profound interest in Social Justice and Equality and is a vocal advocate for the acceptance of the rights of others, especially as it relates to vulnerable populations in our community, and globally. She is a Peace Scholar, a consultant in Peacebuilding and Conflict Transformation, and a Director with the NGO Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan.
"The Green Party is absolutely thrilled to have someone of Dr. Susan Hartley's expertise and international experience as our health and wellness critic," said provincial leader, Peter Bevan-Baker. "Not only does she bring a lifetime of work experience as a clinical psychologist, she has also worked within the NGO peace and development sector internationally. Only rarely has Prince Edward Island had elected officials with the sorts of credentials that Susan will be bringing to her position. I look forward to announcing more Green Party critics and future candidates with similarly impressive resumes in the months ahead," concluded Bevan-Baker.
The health and wellness of Islanders does not start at the doctor's office.” says Dr Hartley. “Everyday economic, social and environmental factors play a significant role in the health of all Islanders and we need a multi-departmental, holistic approach that reflects this reality. While we must ensure high quality care for those Islanders facing mental health and health challenges it is past time to move from a reactive to proactive model of Health and Wellness Care which has resilience, protection, and prevention as its foundation.
Bevan-Baker has previously stated the Green Party of PEI intends to announce a full complement of shadow critics in the months to come.
